Over 3,800 Sign Up for Exam to Select Clerics Accompanying Iranian Hajj, Umrah Pilgrims

IQNA – An official announced the registration of more than 3,800 students and professors from Islamic seminaries for the exam to recruit clergy to accompany Hajj and Umrah pilgrims.

Speaking at meeting in the holy city of Qom, Hojat-ol-Islam Seyed Hossein Roknoddini, the cultural deputy of the Office of the Leader’s Representative in Hajj and Pilgrimage Affairs, said that following the announcement made to students and professors of the seminaries, there was a positive response from them. 

He said a total of 3,865 individuals have registered, and after reviewing the eligibility of the applicants, an exam will be held on April 10.

Applicants should be clerics aged between 27 and 37 who are married and have Iranian citizenship.

Those who pass the exam will be interviewed and the selected clerics will take a training course before being dispatched to the holy cities of Mecca and Medina accompanying Hajj and Umrah pilgrims.

The Hajj is a religious duty that must be fulfilled at least once by all Muslims who are able to do so. The pilgrimage involves a series of rituals performed over four days in and around Mecca, located in western Saudi Arabia.
